“This Diet Helped Me Fight Cancer” – Dr. David Servan-Schreiber’s True Story

When Dr David Servan-Schreiber was diagnosed with brain tumor, he decided to write a book. His book “Anti cancer: new way of life” became a bestseller, but unfortunately after 19 years of struggle with the disease, he lost the fight.

The tumor was discovered unintentionally. When he was having some problems with the results of his research, he decided to scan his brain. That’s when his colleagues saw the hazelnut-size tumor.

He went under many surgeries, chemotherapies and remissions. But, the cancer left marks in his life, so he decided to make researches concerning the condition he had.

First he focused on finding the very cause and he got very unexpected results. It turned out that air pollution wasn’t the cause as it was previously thought, but the large sugar consumption.

In fact, David never truly cared what he ate. His diet contained of everything an average person consumes – soft drinks, unhealthy food, and lots of sugar. He also found out that the radiation from the cell phones can be a big risk factor and that’s why he advised on using headphones as prevention.

He also discovered that there are countless healthy foods that have anti-inflammatory properties and are able to eliminate cancer cells. There are also foods that are able to withdraw toxins and foods that protect the body from free radicals. Another thing is that they do not attack the diseases in one, but in many different ways.

The anti-cancer diet is the complete opposite of the diet Americans consume. This healthy diet contains a lot of fresh vegetables, legumes, olive oil and flax, spices and herbs. You can also eat meat and eggs alongside, but in very small amounts.

We’ll start part of the list with green tea. This amazing tea contains polyphenols, including catechins, which reduce the creation of new blood cells that feed tumors, meaning it is potent in fighting cancer. It is also a powerful antioxidant. The preparation of green tea is very simple: just boil some water and let it cool down for a while, then add the tea. Remember to never add it in hot or boiling water because it will lose its healing properties.

Rosehip juice is an ancient Persian beverage that has been used as a medicine for thousands of years. It’s been scientifically proven that it can reduce the development of one of the most vicious prostate cancer forms. In, fact, it can reduce it up to 50%.

Fresh ginger, turmeric and Indian saffron have been part of the Indian medicine for millenniums, and for a reason. They have strong anti-inflammatory properties and ginger can ease the nausea caused by chemotherapy.

In his book, Doctor David also listed Brussel sprouts, Chinese cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. These vegetables contain anticancer molecules, cleanse the body from carcinogens and prevent the development of malignant tumors. It is advisable not to overcook them, or better consume them raw.

Next on his list are Garlic, leeks and onions. They contain sulfur compounds that can kill cancers like intestine, breasts, lungs and prostate. They are best consumed with olive oil.

Consuming fish at least twice a week will lower your risk of developing some of the cancer type. It is thanks to the Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish. They are anti-inflammatory, and sardines are excellent example, so as the wild salmon, but note that you should consume them freshly prepared, not frozen.

Further on, oranges, tangerines, lemon and grapefruit contain anti-inflammatory nutrients that stimulate the detoxification of cancer cells in the liver. Also, Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cranberries contain acids and polyphenols that prevent tumor development. It is advisable to consume them with soy milk and cereals. These fruits don’t lose their effectiveness if frozen.

And his most important advice for sweets-lovers is that whenever they crave for something prepared with processed sugar to eat dark chocolate instead, and you can eat this type of chocolate as much as you want because it is a great antioxidant. He said that a piece of high-quality dark chocolate is healthier than a glass of red wine and equally good as a cup of green tea.
