Pancreatic cancer is the 4th most common cause of cancer-related deaths all around the world with less than 5% survive rate in the past 5 years.
Frankincense oil is a remedy used in Ayurveda and the Chinese medicine and shows success where modern medicine fails. It can treat various diseases including bone regeneration, cartilage regeneration and disc regeneration. It has anti-inflammatory properties thanks to the boswellic acids it contains. These acids can prevent and treat rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.
According to recent studies, this oil holds a strong anti-neoplastic activity and anti-cancer properties. The aim of the study was to identify the optimal condition for preparing the oil and to evaluate its effects in cultured human pancreatic cancer cells and a xenograft mouse cancer model.
It’s been used hydro distilled frankincense frankincense in 4 different batches at increasing times or temperatures: 78 degrees C at 2 hours, 10 hours, 12 hours, and the fourth at 100 C for 12 hours.
The study included male mice that were 4-5 weeks old that were artificially induced with pancreatic tumor cells left to grow for a week. After 24 h of the oil preparation mentioned before, the mice were given either saline solution or frankincense oil every 4 days.
The results showed that frankincense oil have improved the growth suspension of the tumors only 3h after the treatment and caused the tumor’s cells to “commit suicide” which led to shrinking of the tumors after the 8th day.
Tumors in the group treated with Frankincense were notably smaller than the tumors in the control group (76.67 mm^3 in contrast to 204 mm^3).
It was also tested how this oil can turn off the DNA of cancer cells and restore its healthy state.
