Headaches are quite common and can be very annoying. When experiencing them, people always go for a painkiller, but what happens if you don’t have one at home? Luckily, there’s a scientific way to get rid of a headache called acupressure.

Acupressure is a kind of massage, and numerous scientific studies have confirmed its effectiveness. As the name implies, it’s a form of acupuncture and reflexotherapy, but it doesn’t require special medical knowledge.

How to massage acupressure points

First of all, you should make yourself comfortable and relax. The massage doesn’t take much time: from 30 seconds to 1 minute on average.

You should massage a point with light pressing or circular movements. Usually, the headache disappears during the massage or 5-10 minutes after it.

There are 6 main points to get rid of a headache:

Yintang Point

This is where your third eye is located. The so called Yintang point is located between the eyebrows in the place where the bridge of the nose passes into the forehead. This point is also responsible for eye fatigue removal.

Zan Zhu Point

These are symmetrical points that are located at the base of the inner edge of the eyebrows. Massage this area in order to relieve a runny nose and improve visual acuity. Massage for 1 minute by pressing or circular movements.

Yingxiang Point

Located on both sides of the nostrils in line with the eyes, massaging them helps to open sinuses, reduce headache and toothache, and relieve stress. To find them, feel a dimple in the bottom of the cheekbones.

Tian Zhu Point

You can located these points at the back of the head in the middle, between the ear and the beginning of the spine. Massage them to relieve nasal congestion, pain in the eyes and ears, severe headache, and migraine.

Shuai Gu Point

These points are found situated 2-3 cm from the beginning of the hairline in the temple area. Feel a small dimple to find this point. Apply pressure in order to relieve pain in the temporal region and eye fatigue.

He Gu Point

You can locate these points on the back of the hand between the thumb and forefinger. Apply pressure to relieve back pain, toothache, and tension in the neck muscles.
