For hundreds of years, people have been practicing various methods for detoxification in order to improve health. Today, detox diets are quite popular for losing weight, but low-calorie fasting can starve your body and your metabolism will slow down because of the important nutrients loss. Detox can also cause dehydration, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, or colon damage. Our body has its own detoxification system consisted of three major organs: the kidneys, the colon and the liver.
The kidneys – responsible for filtering the blood and removing toxins through the urine;
The colon – eliminates the toxins before they affect the body and it includes bacteria that create healthy and unhealthy chemicals;
The liver – filters and blocks toxins from entering your body.
Dr. Oz recommends the following 48-hour weekend cleanse which is based on certain foods that are meant to keep these three organs to be in their best performance.
